Sweet Spot.

“What are you passionate about?” That is a question I used to hate getting asked. It is so vague, yet,  so daunting. I’m passionate about running and reading and road trips (all coincidently starting with an ‘r’), but it didn’t seem that that was the answer they were looking for. I think they were asking, what do you wake up each morning excited to do? Honestly, there have been times where I couldn’t have given you an answer, and couldn’t think of one thing I was excited to do or work on. On other days I could have talked your ear off about what I was working on and what project I was excited about.

So when I quit my job in mid-November I had to have this talk with myself. What do I enjoy doing? What is my sweet spot? That spot where my passion and my gifting align...what is that for Ashley? After some time just thinking about it, talking about it with my family, friends, and mentors, something became very apparent to me: I am in my sweet spot when I’m creating. Creating can be so many different things which, is why I love it so much. Some days creating can mean writing copy and creating content, while other days creating can mean organizing social media posts and figuring out your intended audience. That’s what I love so much about creativity: it is such a fluid term and can be so different from person to person. And you better not ever tell me you’re not creative because everyone is in their own way! Just because you aren’t a painter or singer, doesn’t mean that you can’t be creative in countless other ways (okay, I’ll end this rant here but honestly I could go on).

I say all of that to say, through the countless hours of dreaming and journaling and talking with my mom on the phone (typical me), I knew I wanted to start my own social media management business and call it Ashley Holmes Creative. It was honestly something I had thought about for at least a year, but never had the courage to actually do it. Taking a risk is never an easy thing, but I knew that if I wanted to take one, I wanted to take the risk on myself. So I did, and here we are. I feel extremely blessed and humbled with how this has all played out, but I quit my job in obedience and I can truly see where God has blessed me because of that.

It can be so hard to sum up your life’s passion in one single sentence, and honestly I don’t think anyone should have to, but I do think you should know what makes you tick. What makes you excited when you wake up in the morning? What could you work on for hours and hours and hours and never get tired of? Chase that thing, because I know how beautiful the end result can be.
